TRAINING CURRICULUM

DAILY PRACTICE

Deepen and advance your practice with long morning practices incorporating advanced āsana, breathing instruction, and meditation from non-brahminical sources.

CRITICAL YOGA HISTORY

Study critical yoga history with Bess. Interrogate popular yoga texts and teachings, and examine social justice issues in yoga, past and present.

TANTRA + HATHA YOGA

We will largely practice from non-brahminical sources, finding practice guidance and teaching inspiration in traditions like tantra and hatha yoga, and texts which did not support caste apartheid.

RESTORATIVE

Brooklyn will be covering Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Thai Yoga Bodywork through a lens that puts rest at the centre, not as a reward, not as a productivity tool, but as a birthright. You’ll learn how to guide others into deep, intelligent rest: mastering restorative sequences, exploring Yoga Nidra for profound nervous-system regulation, and using Thai Yoga Bodywork as extended savasana to hold space with touch, presence, and care.

PRACTICE TEACHING

Participate in practice teaching sessions and receive coaching from Brooklyn and Bess.

FACULTY

Bess Prescott (techniques, teaching skills, history, philosophy, body reading and assisting)

Brooklyn Reardon (techniques, teaching skills, restorative yoga, thai massage, body reading and assisting). Brooklyn’s teaching is shaped by her Māori (indigenous Aotearoa/New Zealand) lineage and her lived experience navigating yoga in Western contexts. This work is part of her mission to re-indigenise yoga, shifting it away from colonial ideas of performance and mastery, and back toward something relational, embodied, and deeply human.

What about assessments?

There will be no official assessment but we will observe you teaching and offer coaching during the training.
